8 True Crime Podcasts You Should Be Listening To

8 True Crime Podcasts You Should Be Listening To

I’ve been into true crime since my sister would let me watch Unsolved Mysteries or Forensic Files with her when I was young. She would only let me watch if I promised not to tell my mom what I was watching. She obviously wouldn’t like that six-year-old was watching shows about murder and criminal activities. So once I discovered podcasts, true crime podcasts soon became my favorite genre. It didn’t take me long to go down a rabbit hole of finding different podcasts. Its very addicting! Since I love listening to new podcasts since its something interesting to listen to during my commute or while cleaning, I decided to share some of my favorites with you. Some are short docuseries, and others come out with a new episode weekly. Now here are 8 True Crime Podcasts You Should Be Listening To.

8 True Crime Podcasts You Should Be Listening To

Serial

Season 1 of the Serial podcast digs deep into the case of Adnan Syed, who was convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend in 1999. This podcast will have you struggling with whether you believe that he is guilty of this horrendous crime or wrongfully convicted. They also have exclusive interviews with Adnan himself.

Atlanta Monster

Even though I’ve lived in Georgia for a large portion of my life, I never heard of the Atlanta Child Murders before this podcast. And if you’re a fan of the recent season of Mind Hunters, then you will love this podcast. The podcast digs deep into the facts of the case while being unbiased on Wayne Williams’s innocence or guilt.

Up And Vanished

Up and Vanished was my introduction to true crime podcasts. This podcast is what sent me down the docuseries rabbit hole. It follows the missing person case of Tara Faye Grinstead in the small town of Hawkinsville, Georgia. This case has a bunch of twists and turns and a very shocking conclusion to the story.

Dr.Death

As someone in the medical field, the story of Dr. Death hits close to home. I always tell people to research their doctor as much as they research any other big decision in their life. And Dr. Death dives into the career and downfall of neurosurgeon Christopher Duntsch and explains why the medical system isn’t always there to protect the patient.

Vanished

Vanished tells the story of a different missing person every episode. The story is told from the perspective of the family/friends of the missing person. This approach allows the reader to have a personal connection with the story and understand how it’s affecting those involved. We also get updates on different cases when they become available. The host has also covered someone that I knew.

Over My Dead Body

Over My Dead Body follows different stories of every married couple worse nightmares. These marriages end in all kinds of terrible ways. The first season focuses on the aftermath of a very nasty divorce between Dan and Wendi. It gets even worse when Wendi’s family gets involved. It also looks at what happens when a rabbi takes it into his own hands to force a husband to grant the wife a divorce! I binged season one in one day.

Gladiator

I’m not a huge sports fan, so I was surprised when I enjoyed the Gladiator podcast. Gladiator explores the life, career, and death of Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez. It also discusses if CTE plays a role in the way his life went and ended.

The Shrink Next Door

The Shrink Next Door was one of the most recent podcasts I binged. It shows what can happen when a therapist uses their control and position to manipulation their patient’s lives.

Top Five Postcasts You Should Be Listening To

I’ve come to love podcasts especially during my commute to works. It makes Houston traffic a little easier to get through. If you have any Podcast suggestions, please leave them in the comments below. I’m always looking for new ones.

Finally, here are the top 5 podcasts you should be listening to in your spare time.

1. My Favorite Murder

My favorite Murder is hosted my two hilarious women, Karen and Georgia, that discuss true crime stories. Their storytelling abilities allow for a less tense recount of crimes that you may or may not have heard before. They also do a minisode once a week where people tell their hometown true crime stories.

2. The Joe Budden Podcast

What’s better than hearing friends give their opinion on things going on in pop culture and their lives. There hasn’t been an episode where I didn’t curl over with laughter. This podcast is exclusively on Spotify.

3. Dr. Death

Dr. Death tells the story of the downfall of neurosurgeon Christopher Duntsch and the patients he harmed during his self-destruction. It’s scary to believe that the healthcare industry could allow a doctor to be negligent for so long.

4. The Vanished

I never realized how many missing people there are in the United States until I listened to this podcast. The host covers missing people cases and talks to their families about the events leading up to their disappearance. The stories are told through the families voices, and this makes the stories that much more real.

5. Dirty John

Dirty John recounts Debra Newell life of hell after meeting John Meehan. Even though her family disapproves of John, she can’t seem to let him go. The twists and turns will have you not wanting to turn it off. It has now been adapted into a tv series.
