How To Spend 3 Days In Denver

How To Spend 3 Days In Denver

Denver has been on my American bucket list for almost three years now. We’ve attempted to go a few times in the past, but it was always more expensive than other cities on my bucket list. Well, now that only Denver, Seattle, and Charlotte are left we decided that the top of the year would be the best time to do. It also helped that it was inexpensive. I wanted to share my travel guide for Denver because looking up suggestions and pre-planning made our trip ten times better.

We made a list of all the things we wanted to see and things we wanted to eat and each day we picked off that list of places — this idea made for a stress-free, simple trip.

Day 1 In Denver

Arrived at DIA around 830am

Checked into Hotel Magnolia in downtown Denver

Breakfast at Denver Biscuit Company

Walked Along the 16th Street Mall

Dinner at Uncle

We arrived super early in the morning at Denver’s International  Airport. Once off the plane, it took us close to an hour to take the train to baggage claim and the shuttle to pick up our rental car. The process wasn’t the fastest, but I’ve experienced worse.

The rental car center to our hotel was around 25 minutes. We stayed at Hotel Magnolia, which is a newly renovated hotel in downtown Denver. I noticed very fast that we didn’t need a rental car. We either walked everywhere or caught the free 16th street mall bus to where ever we wanted to go.

Breakfast: Denver Biscuit Company– Highly recommend it. It was delicious, but make sure you come hungry. Their portion sizes are enormous!

I was super excited about the 16th Street mall because it said it was the largest outdoor mall in the country. It was super disappointing. There are a lot of shops on 16th street, but nothing extraordinary. We did visit the I Heart Denver gift shop in the Denver Pavilions. It showcases products from local artists.

Uncle Uncle Uncle, what can I say about Uncle? Uncle is a restaurant that focuses mainly on ramen. If you eat at anywhere in Denver, this should be it. The ramen was amazing!

Day 2

Breakfast at Jelly

The Money Museum at the Federal Reserve

Larimer Square

Lunch at Biker Jim’s Gourmet Dogs

Went To see the Big Blue Bear at the Convention Center

Dinner at Linger

Breakfast at Jelly was okay. It wasn’t anything to harp about, but it did the job. However, the donut flights were terrific.

The Money Museum was interesting but extremely small. The one-room museum took us close to 10 minutes to finish.

Larimer Square is a small area of small shops and restaurants. We didn’t stop in any of them, but we did enjoy the whimsical lights.

We walked from Larimer Square to Biker Jim’s Gourmet Dogs. I tried the All Beef Dog wrapped in bacon, and my husband tried the pheasant and rattlesnake. We both agreed that the dogs were delicious.

The Big Bear was 5 minutes from our hotel, so it was a quick pop through, but it wouldn’t be worth a journey in my opinion.

Linger was once a mortuary called Olinger. Our Uber driver told us that they turned it into a restaurant close to 4 years ago. They serve tapas/ small plates and are quite expensive. Our bill for the night was around $50, and we were still hungry after leaving.

Day 3

Breakfast at Syrup

Drove to Red Rock Amphitheatre

Little Man Ice Cream

Lunch at Smok Barbecue

Happy Hour at Union Station

Dinner at Sushi-Rama

Syrup served simple, everyday breakfast. Easy to find something that everyone will like.

Visiting Red Rock Amphitheatre was one of the few times we used our rental car. It was a 25-minute drive from downtown, and it was so worth it. The area is beautiful. There were a lot of people working out in the actual theatre, so we tried to stay out of their way a best as possible. The only downside was going up and down the steps. Since we’re not used to the elevation, we were exhausted after.

I had to visit the infamous Little Man Ice Cream. The vanilla ice cream was delicious, but the cone was the real star here.

Smok Barbecue burnt ends are amazing! I wish I could find them in Texas.

Union Station was on all the recommended lists I saw. We went there on our last day for happy hour, and all the drinks were $7. You have to try the Jack Rose.

I would not recommend Sushi-rama. The sushi was sub-par and they had a lot of weird combinations. The staff wasn’t the nicest as well.

Overall Denver was amazing. It was one of the most relaxing trips we’ve taken. I didn’t need a vacation after my vacation. We arrived back in Houston well rested.

Ways to Relieve Stress

Ways to Relieve Stress

Our the last few years, I’ve been on a journey to find healthy ways to relieve stress. Before my journey, I would ignore the stress and eventually I would break down from the weight of everything. Stress was causing so many issues, not only mentally but physically as well. I had to figure out what would make my stress better without pushing my problems under the rug. These stress relieving tips and tricks have helped me tremendously.

Aromatherapy

I have fallen in love with the bath and body works Aromatherapy line. They have everything you could ever want. I use the candles to give a calming effect around my home. I love their bath oils, soaks, and bubble bath for relaxing in a nice warm bath at the end of the day if I’m not in the mood for a bath I use their in shower steamer tablets. They release an aromatherapy scent when the warm shower water hits it. Before bed, I like to use the pillow mist to calm me and clear my mind before bed. My number one aromatherapy tip is to get bath and body works room spray for your car. I like to spray the energy scent in the mornings to give me a boost. I use the relaxing scent for the time I’m in Houston’s traffic and need a major woosah!

Meditation With Relaxing Music

I’ve started doing meditation once a day. It helps me clear my mind and escape from the world around me. I usually use this time to do my daily stretches as well. I like to play a small “Soundscapes Music for Relaxation” in the background. It has multiple sounds of nature that gives me a feeling of inner peace.  If it’s been a stressful day, I’ll turn on my aromatherapy diffuser and put in my favorite mixture(sweet orange, lemongrass, and eucalyptus).

Nap with Black Out Curtains

There aren’t a lot of things that I feel a nap can’t relieve temporarily. When I’m exhausted small issues feel ten times worse. Going home and taking a nap gives me a clear mind to address the situation. Blackout curtains are one of my smartest purchases. It allows for a super peaceful, uninterrupted sleep.

Exercise

I love to exercise when I’m having a rough day. Walking, running, and my favorite, kickboxing has helped me realize some stress.

Doing things You Enjoy

Doing things you like to will take your mind off the stress of the day. I love to grab a book, preferably not a stress-inducing thriller and get lost in the story. I love baking my favorite dessert. Baking can be fun when I don’t put pressure on myself for it to be perfect. Going out with friends and family to do something fun such as escape rooms, go-cart racing, or arcades can help as well.

Art & crafts

I found adult coloring books to be incredibly relaxing. I also tend to set up my bullet journal when I need a break from other things.

Relaxing YouTube videos

If I’m having difficulty going to sleep or need a break I love to watch pimple popping and soap cutting video. (I recommend Enilisa Brown videos. Her voice is calming, and her camera work is terrific.) Others tend to find ASMR video relaxing as well. Those type of sounds tend to have the opposite effect on me, but  try to find whatever floats your boat.

What are your ways to relieve stress?

New Year, New Me?

New Year, New Me?

Every year I succumb to making New Years resolutions. It gives me the feeling of starting my year off rights. I usually do pretty well with accomplishing my resolutions, so I continue to do them, and this year I decided to share them with you all.

My “New Year, New Me” Resolutions

1.More International Travel

I spent most of 2018 traveling around the USA. I was able to get a companion pass for my husband with Southwest, and they primarily fly domestically. 2019 is the year I want to spread my wings and explore other countries.

2. Spend less money

My goal of spending less money includes cooking more and making my morning coffee at home instead of waiting in a Starbucks line. *I’m going to miss their banana bread* I didn’t realize how much money I spent on unnecessary things last year. That will have to come to a halt this year.

3. Be more consistent with saving

I’m good at saving money, but I slack off during months where I know I will spend a lot of money. I’m going to automatically transfer a certain about of money into my savings each month without me having to do it manually. Out of sight, out of mind.

4. Become more organized

I am a self per-claimed neat freak. I like things in a particular spot, and I can’t focus unless everything is clean and tidy. But there is always room for improvement, especially when it comes to my closet and pantry.

5. Healthier Lifestyle

I know, I know. Health is usually on the top of everyone’s New Years resolution list. I did it last year with my husband, and we stuck with it until about October, and we’ve been rouge ever since. This includes everything from exercising more, eating better (Sorry Chick-fil-A), less stress, and stretching. I want it to be a lifestyle change, something that becomes second nature.

Do you believe in making New Year’s Resolutions?

Cafe Review: Cafe Marrese In North Houston

Cafe Review: Cafe Marrese In North Houston

I decided to do my first Cafe Review on Cafe Marrese because it has jumped its way to my favorite shop in my area.

I found Cafe Marrese during my hunt for the perfect latte in Houston. The shop is located north of Houston in Tomball, Tx.

This coffee shop is perfect for everything from studying in their quiet room to hosting a meeting in the conference room. I love sitting on the couch and reading a book or sitting at the bar to enjoy my coffee before my day begins. I love the Peruvian Latte since I’m a flavored latte kind of girl. The Peruvian is a coconut latte with a hint of vanilla. Try it both iced and hot! I’ve had it at least five times.

They also serve excellent food.  For breakfast, try the Allen breakfast which comes with a half waffle, eggs, and your choice of breakfast meat. My husband loves the waffle. It is more on the sweet side, so a half of a waffle is the perfect portion. For lunch, try the Ranch Hand BLT, it’s piled with thick cut bacon! I give this shop a 5/5!

What’s your favorite coffee shops in your area and what’s your favorite drink to order?

How To Save Money On Your Next Vacation

How To Save Money On Your Next Vacation

I don’t know about you, but the worst part of going on a vacation for me is the planning process. Between searching for the best flight prices and trying to find a hotel in the right location, It can become super stressful. If you’re planning a group or family trip, the stress goes up a few notches.

These travel websites have helped me plan almost all of my vacations. I now spend less time planning the actual vacation and more time shopping for my vacation outfits.

SKYSCANNER

Skyscanner scans all travel websites in search of the perfect flight for you. You can sort the flights based on your preference. If you’re looking for the cheapest option sort low to high if you want to get there the fastest time they have you covered. I also use this website for travel ideas. They have an option for you to but “anywhere” as your destination. It will then give you options from your city based on price. I love this site for getting an idea of the cost of a possible trip.

SOUTHWEST VACATIONS

I have used Southwest Vacations to book both my Cancun and Punta Cana trip. They always have discounts when you package your flight and hotel together. I’ve been able to find trips as low as $600 for two people for a week in an all-inclusive resort. By booking all-inclusive resorts as a vacation, they come out hundreds of dollars cheaper.

SKIPLAGGED

Skiplagged is another site that finds cheap flights. The only catch is that you usually can’t have checked bags. Skiplagged will find flights that have your destination, but your destination might be a layover site. If you decide to check bags, your bags will continue to the final destination. It is suitable for light packers.

HOTEL CANARY

Hotel Canary is a Google Chrome Extension for Priceline. Priceline offers express deals on hotels based on their star rating. They conceal the hotels’ name until after you agree to book it. Its a gamble for what hotel you will end up with and they do not offer refunds. That’s where Hotel Canary comes into place. The extension tells you what hotel it most likely will be. If they can’t pinpoint a specific one, they will give you the top three hotels that it will be from and then you can decide if you’re okay with either one.

Top Five Postcasts You Should Be Listening To

Top Five Postcasts You Should Be Listening To

I’ve come to love podcasts especially during my commute to works. It makes Houston traffic a little easier to get through. If you have any Podcast suggestions, please leave them in the comments below. I’m always looking for new ones.

Finally, here are the top 5 podcasts you should be listening to in your spare time.

1. My Favorite Murder

My favorite Murder is hosted my two hilarious women, Karen and Georgia, that discuss true crime stories. Their storytelling abilities allow for a less tense recount of crimes that you may or may not have heard before. They also do a minisode once a week where people tell their hometown true crime stories.

2. The Joe Budden Podcast

What’s better than hearing friends give their opinion on things going on in pop culture and their lives. There hasn’t been an episode where I didn’t curl over with laughter. This podcast is exclusively on Spotify.

3. Dr. Death

Dr. Death tells the story of the downfall of neurosurgeon Christopher Duntsch and the patients he harmed during his self-destruction. It’s scary to believe that the healthcare industry could allow a doctor to be negligent for so long.

4. The Vanished

I never realized how many missing people there are in the United States until I listened to this podcast. The host covers missing people cases and talks to their families about the events leading up to their disappearance. The stories are told through the families voices, and this makes the stories that much more real.

5. Dirty John

Dirty John recounts Debra Newell life of hell after meeting John Meehan. Even though her family disapproves of John, she can’t seem to let him go. The twists and turns will have you not wanting to turn it off. It has now been adapted into a tv series.

Favorite Books That You Need To Read Next

Favorite Books That You Need To Read Next

I made a new years resolution to read one book a month. It doesn’t sound like a lot, but since I work a full time job its a start. I love sharing my favorite books with other people and later discussing how we felt. I have developed an informal book club with my friends and family. It makes reading different books a little more enjoyable.

My Current Favorite Books

1.American Gods by Neil Gaiman

If you’re someone that can remove yourself from reality, then you will love this book. The book follows Shadow around America as he encounters different GODS. You grow to understand how the Gods came to be and their journey once they came to America. After you’ve read the book, make sure to watch the show on STARZ. It’s not too far off from the book.

2.What She Knew by Gilly Macmillan

Mysteries have become my favorite genre. It gives me the suspense I need to make me continue to turn the pages. This book follows a moms journey to find her missing son. The twists and turns make this book extremely addictive.

3.The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck by Mark Manson

I’ve never been the type to read self-help or motivational books, but this book changed that for me. It not a typical “look in the mirror and tell yourself your beautiful”self-help book. It’s raw and honest. If you’re sensitive to foul language and raw honesty, then this isn’t the book for you. This book is always in the back of my mind when I feel myself getting upset about small things. It was life-changing for me.

4. The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl

What can’t Issa Rae do? I had to read her book after becoming addicted to Insecure. This book covers her life while also giving life lessons. It’s a fantastic read.

5.The Last Black Unicorn by Tiffany Haddish

This is the modern-day Cinderella story. Tiffany Haddish talks about her journey from foster care to a superstar. She talks about the good, the bad, and the ugly while giving some comedic relief. This book is hilarious.

I love finding new books and authors of all genres. What are your favorite books of 2018?  Leave your recommendations below.
